Administrative / Biographical History

The institution was established as the British Association of Waterworks Engineers in 1896. From 1906-1910 it was known as the Association of Waterworks Engineers. In 1911 it was incorporated as the Institution of Water Engineers. It 1947 it became the Institution of Water Engineers and Scientists which in 1987 merged with the Institution of Public Health Engineers and the Institute of Water Pollution Control to form the Institution of Water and Environmental Management.The Institution was granted a Royal Charter in .
