Papers of or relating to Dr Robert Murray, Medical and Industrial Safety Advisor for the Trades Union Congress

Files relating to the TUC's Medical and Industrial Safety Advisor, 1962-1975. Additional photocopies of correspondence of Murray (re Turner & Newall) and an article on asbestos and the dock workers were deposited by Morris Greenberg in March 2013 (filed with depositor correspondence: MSS.292/6/RM).

Dr Robert (Bob) Murray was born in 1916. After studying medicine he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War II and was mentioned in dispatches while serving in Burma. He was a doctor specialising in occupational medicine and worked for the Medical Inspectorate of Factories, 1947-1956 and then for the International Labour Organisation in Geneva. He was the TUC's Medical and Industrial Safety Advisor, 1962-1974, and helped to establish the TUC Centenary Institute of Occupational Health at London University. He was awarded the OBE in 1978. Robert Murray died in 1998.
