Administrative / Biographical History

Formed in 1945 as the Yorkshire Association of Colliery Officials and Staff (YACOS) to cater for managerial, supervisory and non-industrial staff in the mining industry. It grew rapidly and changed its name to the British Association of Colliery Officials and Staff (BACOS). Following nationalisation it became BACM in May 1947.
