Scope and Content

This collection includes: minutes, agenda and papers; subject files; course handbooks.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Committee of Directors of Polytechnics was established 30 April 1970, when 20 of the proposed 30 polytechnics had been designated. The object of the Committee was to provide a forum for the discussion of matters of common interest and to contribute to the evolution of policy for the future development of polytechnics within the total provision for higher education in England and Wales. The CDP had its own secretariat from October 1972, situated at St Katherine's House, London. The CDP came to an end in 1993, with the end of the binary division between universities and polytechnics. Its role was taken over by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals.
