Scope and Content

Minutes of Council and Committees, 1965-1983, with some correspondence and related material.

The collection forms part of the archive of the British Clothing Industry Association (MSS.222), in which the records of various predecessor and related organisations are contained.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Council was set up in 1965 as the Clothing Export Liaison Committee to provide a forum to discuss methods of promoting exports, to advise the Board of Trade, to encourage co-operation in the field of clothing exports, to arrange discussions on exports. The CEC title was adopted in October 1965. In 1984, the CEC joined a similar export body for the knitwear trades, to form the British Knitting & Clothing Export Council.

Acquisition Information

The CEC records were deposited with the Modern Records Centre through the kind co-operation of the Office Administrator of the British Clothing Industry Association Ltd. in March 1991.
