Administrative / Biographical History
The National Electrical Manufacturers' Association (NEMA) was established in 1902 by twenty-nine electrical manufacturing and sales companies, mostly concerned with lighter electrical apparatus. In 1911, with a membership expanded to represent the whole industry, it was renamed the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association (BEAMA), with the aim of supporting the British electrotechnical industry by developing policies, making representations to Government and other authorities and providing services that would be uneconomic for member organisations to provide for themselves.
