Scope and Content

This collection includes: records concerning NCU/UCW merger, 1990-1995, broad strategy of future development, 1984-1988, and British Standards Institution, 1980-1989; women's advisory committee records, 1984-1992; annual and special conference agenda, papers and minutes, 1985-1994; records concerning exchange visits from and to other countries, 1984-1990; 'National Communications Union Journal', 1985-1994. These records include some inherited from the Post Office Engineering Union.

Administrative / Biographical History

The National Communications Union was formed in 1985 by the amalgamation of the Post Office Engineering Union with the Postal and Telecommunications Group of the Civil and Public Services Association. In January 1995 it merged with the Union of Communication Workers to form the Communication Workers' Union.
