Administrative / Biographical History

The Flint Glass Makers' Friendly Society of Great Britain and Ireland was formed in 1849. It was renamed the National Flint Glass Makers' Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 1899 and the National Flint Glass Makers' Friendly Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 1935. In 1948 it amalgamated with the National Union of Glass Cutters and Decorators to form the National Union of Flint Glass Workers.

The National Glass Bottle Makers' Society of Great Britain and Ireland was formed by breakaway members in 1903. It amalgamated with the Yorkshire Glass Bottle Makers' United Trade Protection Society in 1920 to form the National Glass Workers' Trade Protection Association, which itself amalgamated with the Transport and General Workers' Union in 1940.
