Administrative / Biographical History

The Glacier Metal Company, which specialised in plain bearings, was founded in north London in 1899 and was associated with Alperton for most of the twentieth century, although production was dispersed to Ayrshire during the Second World War. It joined Associated Engineering Ltd. in 1964, which was then taken over by Turner and Newall in the 1980s.

Glacier Metal became well known through the research and development in organisation and management initiated by Wilfred Brown, its managing director, 1939-65.
