Administrative / Biographical History

This committee was appointed on 1 November 1967 to wind up all the outstanding affairs of the BISF, realise its assets and distribute the net proceeds to the British Steel Corporation and the British Independent Steel Producers Association in agreed proportions. It held its ninth and final meeting on 13 April 1973.

Custodial History

At its final meeting the Committee resolved to instruct its secretary to hand over its records to the British Steel Corporation "to form part of the records of the British Iron and Steel Federation".

The largest part of the deposits made in the Centre by British Steel plc is formed by the records of the British Iron and Steel Federation (BISF) and its predecessor, the National Federation of Iron and Steel Manufacturers.
