Administrative / Biographical History

Professor McLelland was a research fellow in management studies at Balliol College, Oxford from 1962 to 1965 and Director of the Manchester Business School from 1965 to 1977.

He served on the following bodies: the Consumer Council, 1963-1966; the National Economic Development Council, 1968-1970; the NEDC's Economic Development Committee for the Distributive Trades, 1965-1970, and Management Education, Training and Development Committee; the Industrial Reorganisation Corporation, 1967-1971; board and governing body of the International Institute for the Management of Technology, Milan.

He was also managing director (1950-1965) and chairman (from 1966) of Laws Stores Limited of Gateshead.
