This body was founded in 1902 as the Association of Municipal Tramway Managers of Great Britain. Its subsequent name-changes were: the Municipal Tramways Association of Great Britain (1903); the Municipal Tramways Association (Incorporated) (1911); the Municipal Tramways and Transport Association (Incorporated) (1926); the Municipal Passenger Transport Association (Incorporated) (1939); the Association of Public Passenger Transport Operators (Incorporated) (1970); the Association of Public Passenger Transport (Incorporated) (1973).
