Records assembled by Professor Steven Tolliday for research into the British automotive industry

The collection includes: sound recordings and transcripts of interviews with leading trade unionists at various companies; records acquired from trade unionists. It covers in particular the history of shop floor bargaining and shop steward organisation in the British automotive industry between the 1920s and early 1980s.

When he deposited these records in 2017, Steven Tolliday was Emeritus Professor of Economic and Social History at the University of Leeds.

The Paul Worm Automotive Collection resulted from a study of the Rover Motor Company under Professor Tolliday's direction as part of his broader research project, and there is some duplication between it and this collection, particularly of oral history materials. There is also related material in the records of the British Leyland Trade Union Committee (deposited by Les Gurl mostly via Professor Tolliday), the Transport and General Workers' Union Coventry District, Jack Jones and Dick Etheridge.
