Administrative / Biographical History
The London United Brass and General Metal Founders' Society was established in 1890. In 1920 it became the United Metal Founders' Society. In 1946 it amalgamated with the National Union of Foundry Workers and the Ironfounding Workers' Association to form the Amalgamated Union of Foundry Workers.

Custodial History
The archive has been deposited in the Centre on indefinite loan by the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (Foundry Section). The first deposit consisted of fifty shelf feet of records collected from the AUEW office in Manchester by Janet Druker on 24th April 1974.
