Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The National Apprenticeship Council for Hairdressing was formed in 1957, comprising representatives of employes and the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers. The purpose of the Council was to regulate the training of hairdressers within the Hairdressing Council Act. After the withdrawal of the employers in 1972, the Council was renamed the Hairdressing Industry Apprenticeship Council (HIAC). In 1974 the Council was wound up and its functions were transferred to the Hairdressing Registration Council.
