Administrative / Biographical History

The union was established as the Friendly Society of Plate Moulders of England, Ireland and Wales in 1890 and renamed the Amalgamated Society of Plate and Machine Moulders of England, Ireland and Wales in 1893, the Amalgamated Moulders' Union in 1907 and the Amalgamated Moulders and Kindred Industries' Trade Union in 1916. It merged with the Amalgamated Union of Foundry Workers in 1967.

Custodial History

The archive has been deposited in the Centre on indefinite loan by the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (Foundry Section). The first deposit consisted of fifty shelf feet of records collected from the AUEW office in Manchester by Janet Druker on 24th April 1974.
