Scope and Content

Goddard kept extensive documentation of his career and the deposit includes files relating to the many assignments which he undertook both as an employee and as an independent consultant. There are extensive files relating to the management of the consultants Stevenson, Jordan & Harrison Limited and to assignments undertaken for them, 1970-1974, the Argonaut computer package for the garment industry and the Interlicence project for introducing new products to interested firms. Other series of files relate to the Institute of Management Consultants from 1968 onwards, the Richmond Group of Independent Consultants 1980-1991 and the Centre for Innovation in Industry 1979-1987.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Goddard (1925-1998) graduated from Cambridge University and then worked at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the National Film Finance Corporation before undertaking a works study course at the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield. His career progressed through work study officer and chemical plant manager (at ICI Billingham), management consultant and computer manager. In 1976 he became an independent management consultant and was active in the Institute of Management Consultants and the 'Richmond Group' of independent consultants. Goddard was involved in numerous projects for various clients and his final years in business were occupied with an initiative for a national Centre for Innovation in Industry.

Mr Goddard made two deliveries at the Modern Records Centre in March 1994. A third deposit was collected by Christine Woodland in October 1998.
