This collection contains: industrial relations officer's files, 1944-1978; secretary's department files, 1944-1968; records obtained from other sources, 1944-1986.

Administrative / Biographical History

The RHA in its present form dates from 1944/5, but its antecedents include the Long Distance Road Haulage Committee of Enquiry, 1930, the Short Distance Road Haulage Association, 1931, the Associated Road Operators, 1935, the National Conference of Parcels Carriers,1937, and the Standing Joint Committee, 1939.

Acquisition Information

Except for those with references beginning MSS.234X, these records were deposited at the Centre in 1982, shortly before the move of the RHA's offices and the retirement of its long-serving secretary, Eric Russell.
