Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The National Association of Builders' Labourers was formed in 1889/90, but broke up in 1893, sixteen of its branches becoming independent unions. In 1907, on the instigation of one of these unions, the Hull and District Builders Labourers' Union, the National Association of Builders' Labourers was reformed, replacing the Federated Builders' Labourers of Great Britain and Ireland, which had been formed in 1890 as an umbrella body for the smaller unions. In 1920, after acrimonious negotiations with the other labourers' unions over amalgamation, the National Association was renamed the "Altogether" Builders' Labourers and Constructional Workers' Society. It amalgamated with the Transport and General Workers' Union in 1934.
