Papers of Sir Geoffrey Chandler, industrialist

Papers on business ethics and the National Economic Development Office.

Chandler was born in 1922. Having worked as a journalist, first with the BBC and then with the 'Financial Times', in 1956 he joined the Shell Petroleum Company where he was head of the economics division and later managing director of Shell Trinidad Ltd, before being co-ordinator for pubic affairs in the Shell Group. He then served as director-general of the National Economic Development Office (the secretariat of the National Economic Development Council), 1978-1983. He was director of Industry Year, 1986, and founder-chair of the Amnesty International British Section Business Group, 1991-2001. He was made a CBE in January 1976 and was knighted in June 1983.
