Administrative / Biographical History

Formed in 1920 from the amalgamation of numerous local societies such as the Aberdeen and District Sheet Metal Workers' Society, the Bolton Society of Braziers and Sheet Metal Workers, Bradford Tin-Plate Workers' Society, the General Union of Braziers and Sheet Metal Workers and the Wolverhampton Operative Tin-Plate Workers Society. The NUSMW&B remained separate from the National Society of Coppersmiths, Braziers and Metalworkers until the two amalgamated in 1959 to form the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers and Coppersmiths.
