Queering the Quarantine Project

Scope and Content

Queering the Quarantine was a project run by queer/disrupt , a research collective of students and early career researchers based at the University of Warwick who describe themselves as "a queer community based in the UK, giving space and voice to members of the LGBTQ+ family and marginalised groups both locally and worldwide." Queering the Quarantine brought together a collection of creative responses to the experience of Covid-19 quarantine.

The organisers said:

"The aim of this project was to construct a space for creative queer responses to the pandemic, and attempt to preserve these for future generations as the experiences of queer individuals and community are often still too hidden and forgotten. Submissions ran from October to December 2020. In creating "Queering the Quarantine" we hoped to capture the unique and differing responses of the queer community during this time of adversity, alongside sharing challenges specific to LGBTQIA+ people in lockdown." This work was done in collaboration with Slanguages and the Queer and Coloured project.

The submissions were international in scope and include images, text, audio and audio visual pieces. Each submission was accompanied by a submission form which included a statement which has been used as the basis for the individual item descriptions. A copy of the submission form with personal details removed from these forms is available to access alongside the submission. The original submission forms are kept with the administrative materials section QTQ/40 (these are not available for public access).

All submission are available to be viewed via the Queering the Quarantine project website and the winners showcased on the queer/disrupt website .

The project website has been captured and preserved as a web archive as part of the administrative materials section (QTQ/40).

Some submissions include files created by the archivist for the purposes of preservation and access; this is indicated in the catalogue.
