Post Office Engineering Federation (POEF)

Scope and Content

Circular letters to executive council.

Administrative / Biographical History

The POEF was set up in November 1918 at a conference of representatives of all the trade unions with members in the Post Office Engineering Department. Its council was made up of six representatives of the Amalgamated Engineering and Stores Association (AE&SA) and two each from the Society of Post Office Engineers (SPOE), the Society of Post Office Engineering Inspectors and the Post Office Telegraph Mechanicians' Society. These representatives formed the Post Office Engineering and Stores Departmental Whitley Council Staff Side. Following the contraction of the Post Office Engineering Department during the 1920s, the POEF ceased to exist in 1932 because of the difficulty and expense of assembling all the delegates.
