Maybury family: Manuscript Diary of a Touring Party

Manuscript diary entitled "a short account of an eleven days tour in Dorset, Devon & Cornwall

The diary was transcribed by Horace Maybury. He was the third son of Clara (1814-1897) and William Augustus Maybury, a surgeon from county Kerry. Horace was one of ten children, of whom two died young. The remaining five sons all became doctors. Initially the family lived in Little Tower Street, London, but in 1850 they moved to Chart Lodge, Frimley, Surrey, where they spent the rest of their lives. The sons attended the City of London School, after which they completed their medical studies at St Thomas's Hospital and Queen's University, Belfast and Dublin. Horace married Florence Ada Taylor in 1890 and practised in Islington. He died as the result of a cycling accident aged 66, and was buried beside his wife in Frimley churchyard, 12 September 1914.
