Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Industrial Relations Research Unit (IRRU) was established by the Social Science Research Council at the University of Warwick in 1970. Its objectives were: to undertake long-term multi-disciplinary industrial relations research; to contribute to improving the quality of industrial relations policy-making; to provide trained research workers; to improve career opportunities by concentrating resources. The first three Directors of the Unit were: Hugh Clegg, 1970-1974; George Bain, 1974-1980; and Professor William Brown, 1980-1985.
