Marjorie Thompson, peace activist, was born on 8th June 1957, at St Louis, Missouri, United States of America (USA). She was educated in Long Beach, California, attended The Colorado College, Colorado, 1974-1978 where she took a BSc Hons in History, and the London School of Economics, England, where she took an MSc Econ in West European Politics.

Peace Movement: During 1983, Marjorie volunteered with the Medical Campaign Against Nuclear Weapons (MCANW); 1983-1986 Parliamentary Officer with the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND); 1986-1987 Head of Press and Publications, CND; 1987-1990, elected as Vice-Chair, CND, member of the board of CND Publications, CND Council and CND Executive; 1990-1993 elected as Chair of the CND; 1990-1991, elected as chair of the Committee to Stop War in the Gulf (CSWG).

Employment: From 1980-1981 Marjorie was a personal assistant at Language Services and Entry Departments; 1982-1983, Legislative aide, Office of Congressman Solomon (29th District New York); 1982-1983, Boston University Overseas Education Project, postgraduate business program for US military personnel at US Nuclear Submarine Base at Holy Loch, Scotland; 1983, Harlech Television (HTV) Assistant to political reporters for duration of general election; 1987-1988, research assistant, Ann Clwyd, MP; 1988-1991, Parliamentary Officer, Royal College of Nursing (RCN); 1991-1993, Adviser, Department of Nursing Policy and Practice, RCN; 1993-1997, Head of Communications, Commission for Racial Equality (CRE); 1997-2001, Director, Cause-Related Marketing, Octagon.

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament was established in 1958 as the successor to the National Committee for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons Tests, founded a year earlier, to press for unilateral nuclear disarmament.
