Administrative / Biographical History

In 1927, the watermen and lightermen who had been members of the National Amalgamated Society of Stevedores, Lightermen, Watermen and Dockers broke away to form the Watermen, Lightermen, Tugmen and Bargemen's Union. In 1971 the Union transferred its engagements to the Transport and General Workers' Union.
