Administrative / Biographical History

Arthur Ibbott (1866-1955) lived at Oxhey for most of his married life, where he established a small Independent Baptist, later Free Church, of which he was superintendent. Originally a Liberal, he later became an active member of the Labour Party. In his business career he was particularly associated with Wetcarbonizing Limited, Westminster (1912-22), and the Burston Spanner Company, which was formed to produce and market the cam spanner designed by Ibbott. As Arthur Bertram, Ibbott published 'In Darkest Christendom (and a way out of the darkness)' (London, 1919), and 'The Economic Illusion' (London, 1924).
