Oldham Provincial Card and Blowing Room and Ring Frame Operatives' Association

Scope and Content

Reports, 1888-1901.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Oldham Card and Blowing Room Operatives' Association was founded in 1880, probably succeeding another association founded in the 1870s. Following a major strike in 1885, which led to a quadrupling of membership, it was reorganised and renamed the Oldham Provincial Card and Blowing Room Operatives' Association in December 1885. It was renamed the Oldham Provincial Card and Blowing Room and Ring Frame Operatives' Association in about 1899 and the Oldham Provincial Union of Textile and Allied Workers in 1968. In 1986 it transferred its engagements to the General, Municipal, Boilermakers and Allied Trades Union (GMB).
