Administrative / Biographical History

The National Society of Quality Circles (NSQC) was founded in 1984, under the auspices of the Industrial Participation Association. The aim of the new society was "to encourage the healthy development of Quality Circles in the UK, by combining the experience and energy of individual firms". It was run by an organising committee drawn from the members, with the IPA providing the secretariat. The organisation was a member-based networking society. On 5 January 1990 the society separated from the IPA and became a company limited by guarantee. On 19 January 1990 it was registered on the Central Register of Charities. In October 1991 it changed its name to the National Society for Quality through Teamwork (NSQT) to reflect its changing role. In 2000 it changed its name again to the European Forum for Teamwork. The economic climate and leaner structures of the member organisations led to a decline in the society and at an EGM on 12 March 2002 a decision was made to liquidate the organisation.
