Osborne was a graduate of the University of Manchester. He held house and registrar appointments at MRI, and was resident surgeon at Park Hospital, Davyhulme. He later specialised in plastic surgery, and held appointments mainly in Liverpool. He was a former president of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons.
