After qualifying at the University of Manchester, Lempert was appointed house surgeon and clinical assistant to the neuro-surgical department at MRI. She was later research assistant and tutor in the department of social and preventive medicine at the University of Manchester before being appointed registrar to the geriatric unit at Stockport and Buxton Hospital Group. She was also lecturer in geriatric medicine at Withington Hospital Manchester. Lempert was a member of MMS and the British Geriatric Society. She was married to Hyme Lempert, also a doctor (see above), who died in 1962. Lempert later remarried and changed her name to Lempert-Barber.
