Killick studied at Guy's Hospital and held junior hospital positions in the South East of England from 1976-1979. He spent a year as a surgical registrar in 1979 before qualifying in gynaecology. In 1982 Killick was appointed research fellow at the University of Manchester, before being promoted to senior lecturer and consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in 1987. Killick was president of the Withington Hospital Obstetric Fund. In 1992 Killick left Manchester to become professor of reproductive medicine and surgery at the University of Hull. He was a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
