Pendlebury was a physician at MRI from 1838 until his death at 1842. Pendlebury had previously worked at the Ardwick and Ancoats Dispensary and the Chorlton upon Medlock Dispensary. He was also a lecturer in medical jurisprudence and the practice of physic and materia medica at Marsden St Medical School, Manchester.
