Purves qualified from the University of Manchester in 1937. He died while serving with the RAMC in the Middle East in 1943. Purves married Constance Mary Frances Lyth b [1906?] (MB ChB Manch 1938) in 1939. She was the daughter of Dr [Harry] Lyth of Cheadle.
