Marsden, the second son of Richard Walter Marsden (see below), studied at the University of Manchester. He held junior appointments Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and MRI. Marsden served as surgeon-lieutenant in the RNVR before being appointed senior registrar to Manchester and Salford Hospital for Skin Diseases. Marsden was a fellow Royal Society of Medicine and member of the North of England Dermatological Society.
