Hall studied at Owens College, Manchester, graduating in 1899, and MD in 1902. He also studied at the universities of Leipzig, Stockholm and Wiesbaden. A former demonstrator in anatomy and a lecturer in pathology at the University of Manchester. He was later professor of pathology and bacteriology at the University of Bristol.
