Purser studied medicine at the University of Manchester and received his degree in 1946. He worked at MRI and RMCH. In 1957 he was appointed consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the North Lancashire and South Westmorland Hospital Group. Purser died on 21 November 1970 aged 48.
