Don Hilson was educated at the University of Witwatersrand and Cambridge University. He held paediatric appointments in London, Liverpool and Cape Town, before becoming a consultant paediatrician for Oldham, Hyde and Glossop Group of Hospitals and was a honorary consultant paediatrician at SMH. Hilson was also a honorary lecturer in paediatrics at the University of Manchester.
