Pringle studied medicine at Owens College and took the Edinburgh University medical degree in 1894 and the DPH from Cambridge University in 1899. He was MOH for Ipswich, Suffolk. Previously he had been MOH for the Port Sanitary Authority of Manchester and an assistant physician at the Ladywell Sanatorium, Salford.
