Komrower was born in Manchester on 31 December 1911, and studied at North Manchester School and Manchester Grammar School. He held house positions at MRI 1936-1937, and was assistant medical officer at Crumpsall Hospital Manchester, resident medical officer at MRI Private Patients' Home, Barnes Convalescent Hospital, and held resident positions at MRI. He became a leading specialist in children's health problems, especially faults in children's metabolic systems which might cause mental difficulties. Komrower was appointed to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, probably in the 1940s, and was consultant physician from 1950 to 1974. He was also director of the Willink Laboratories at the Children's Hospital, working on errors of metabolism. A unit at the Hospital was named after him as the Komrower Metabolic Unit. He was also paediatrician at St Mary's Hospital Manchester and lecturer in child health at the University of Manchester. Komrower was president of the British Paediatric Association in 1979 and a founder and executive committee member of the Manchester Paediatric Club in 1948. He was also a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Komrower died on 11 December 1989.
