Magee gained his medical education at Anderson College Glasgow, qualifying in 1917, and was house physician to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Magee held resident appointments at Northern Hospital for Women and Children, Manchester, and Ancoats Hospital Manchester before being appointed assistant medical officer to Salford Royal Hospital. He was also honorary medical officer to Eccles and Patricroft Hospital. Magee was a member of MMS.
