Holt was born in Urmston in 1898 and entered the University of Manchester Medical School. Holt applied for a Commission in November 1916 and died suddenly at Grantham on 7 June 1917. His father, John Edward Holt, died in 1935 leaving bequests to MRI and the University of Manchester in memory of his son.
