Logan studied medicine at the University of Glasgow and held junior appointments at Glasgow Eye Infirmary, Greenock Asylum and Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow. Logan was later appointed deputy superintendent to the County Mental Hospital, Prestwich. He was a member of the Royal Medical Psychiatric Association and of MMS. Logan was later medical superintendent to Coney Hill Hospitals, Gloucester.
