Mckenzie studied medicine at Owens College Manchester. He held junior appointments at Ancoats Hospital Manchester, MRI and Wolverhampton and Staffordshire General Hospital. After serving in the RAMC Mckenzie settled in practice in Glossop and was assistant school medical officer to the City of Manchester.
