Edward Newbold studied medicine at Manchester Royal School of Medicine and St Bartholomew's Hospital London, taking the MRCS in 1835 and the LSA in 1838. He was a surgeon at the Macclesfield Dispensary and to the Macclesfield Union. He was also a certifying factory surgeon.
