Marcuson was consultant surgeon at Hope Hospital Salford and honorary associate lecturer in surgery at the University of Manchester. He trained in medicine at Middlesex Hospital and Cambridge, qualifying in 1961, and was senior registrar in surgery at Middlesex. Marcuson was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and became FRCS (England and Edinburgh) in 1965.
