MB CM Edinburgh 1890, MD 1894.

Menzies studied medicine at Edinburgh University, and was awarded a gold medal for his MD thesis in 1894. He came to Manchester in 1890 as junior demonstrator of physiology at Owens College, and from 1892 to 1895 was senior demonstrator. Menzies was then house surgeon Manchester Royal Eye Hospital before settling in general practice in Rochdale, where he was later appointed honorary ophthalmic surgeon to Rochdale Infirmary.
