Jefferson studied medicine at Oxford University. He demonstrator in anatomy at the University of Manchester in 1947/8 and held resident and registrar posts at Ancoats Hospital. He was later a consultant neurosurgeon with Sheffield AHA. He was the son of Geoffrey Jefferson.
