Kilroe was junior assistant house surgeon at Sheffield Royal Infirmary before holding house positions at Ancoats Hospital Manchester and MRI. He was a captain in the RAMC before settling in general practice in Rochdale, where he was in practice for 40 years. Kilroe was lecturer in medical ethics at the University of Manchester for ten years and was honorary consulting physician at Rochdale Infirmary. He was president of the medical section of MMS, president of the Lancashire and Cheshire Branch of BMA and a member of the North Western Tuberculosis Society. Kilroe died in May 1952.
